The Clock Watchers

Day three of first grade.  In many of the kids' minds the only difference between half-day kindergarten and full day first grade is that they get to eat lunch at school.  They have yet to understand that the day continues for a loooong time after we eat lunch.

Here's how the conversation goes:

12:30
"Is it time to go home?"

"No.  We go home at 3:30.  It's just 12:30
                  right now."

"How far away is that?"

                "That's three hours away."

1:00
"When do we get to go home?"

"We go home at 3:30, sweetie."

"How long is that?"

"That's two and a half hours."

1:25
"Now do we get to go home?"

"No, darlin'.  We go home at 3:30.  We
still have about two hours to go."

And on and on it goes till the bitter end.
I try not to take it too personally.

Teachers Gone Wild

Well here we are just over a week away from the first day of school.  Under normal conditions we (my 1st grade team) would be at school busy with classroom preparations.  However this year we are not operating under normal conditions.  Our building is a constructions site and we haven't been given permission to occupy it yet.

I guess that means a few more days of prancing poolside in our bikini tops drinking mysterious drinks from red solo cups.  Right?

Uhhh. No.  That's not really our style.

Instead...we have CRAFT DAY!!!!

Fully clothed and drinking sweet tea.

We sure know how to PAR-TAY.

We got together to make special slip covers for the kids to put on their chair backs on their birthday.

Nothing screams fun like sewing machines and craft paint.

I've been so fortunate over my teaching career to work with great people.

Ladies whom I respect professionally and simply enjoy being around.

Dedicated, smart, creative, loyal, reflective, dependable.....

We're recovering from our craft hangover this morning.

This year we get to welcome Kayla, a new member of our team.

We already know and love her and couldn't be more excited to work with her.

Happy School!
